The children and teens feel safe, and those that are afraid are taught how to be safe handling and riding. Once they feel comfortable it is easy for them to ride with ease. Horses don’t judge and are unbiased. Their natural impartiality can lead to trust between rider and animal, as well as rider and therapist. This sense of trust creates a safe environment without fear of retribution or embarrassment when discussing emotions.
Trough our therapeutic riding participants are required to fully trust the horse. Which can be applied to many situations that lead to improvements in social relationships and emotional regulation. It develops interpersonal skills and generating self-awareness Children and teens with emotional, mental health challenges often don’t have the self-awareness to cope with their feelings. This helps them become more aware of their emotions.
Through a series of sessions our handler will help the children or participants understand boundaries. They are taught that boundaries are the rules and limits set to protect well-being and mental health. Our program can help at-risk teens set healthy boundaries and respect others’ boundaries. This also reduces stress and encourages vulnerability
